The Fifth Toy Story Film Trailer Pits The Beloved Duo Against a Digital Device
It has been 30 anniversary after the original Toy Story film debuted, launching Pixar as a major animation studio and introducing viewers to beloved characters like Woody (the actor) and the space ranger (the voice talent), who are now household names.
Coming in 2026, the fifth installment is scheduled for release. The first teaser trailer for Toy Story 5 landed this week, providing a brief look into the plot but keeping viewers wondering how it will resolve the conclusion of Toy Story 4.
Bonnie's New Toy: A Frog-Shaped Tablet Frightens the Toys
In the teaser shows Bonnie — who inherited Andy's toys when he left for college — getting a brand new toy, one that alarms Woody, Buzz, and the crew. She acquires her initial digital gadget, and she is excited about it.
Presumably, the amphibian-inspired device will animate just like Bonnie's other toys. However, the characters appear to consider it as a danger coming to replace them, which it probably is.
Woody's Return: Mysteries from Toy Story 4
An element the trailer avoids is why the sheriff is returned with his companions in the child's bedroom. The end of Toy Story 4 saw him embark on a fresh journey with the shepherdess (Annie Potts), traveling with a fair and assisting prize toys locate loving owners.
Certainly, the filmmakers will address the aftermath of Toy Story 4 in the movie. Seeing him show up in Bonnie's room unexpectedly is somewhat puzzling, though. It also raises questions whether his partner will have come back with Woody. And what about Duke Caboom (the star)?
Connections from the Last Installment
At the very least, some elements are continuing from the earlier movie. The final act the cowboy did before departing for his fresh path was hand over his symbol of authority to the cowgirl (the voice actor), entrusting her as the leader of the toy domain. The clip displays the insignia pinned to her outfit.
Hopefully she is still the key figure among the group.
Toy Story 5 debuts on the scheduled date.
